    Collapse overview
As the U.S. healthcare system is being reshaped through the expansion of health insurance and alteration of existing health insurance plans, the purpose of my research is to step back and examine the ultimate purpose of health insurance. My approach is interdisciplinary, as I have found that the health insurance literature is split between the fields of health economics, health services research, and risk management and insurance. The overarching themes of my research are determining how health insurance can be part of an optimal health care financing system, the interaction and overlap between healthcare reimbursement systems and healthcare delivery systems, and the ways in which health insurance can protect, preserve, and promote human health.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
